This series comprises 327 photographs from the school of nursing at Lutheran Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York. Most photographs are undated, but those that are dated are from 1911-1964, with the bulk dating from 1911-1932. Most of the photographs are professionally produced, only a very few are candid shots. Box 1 contains 301 black and white photographs, which appear to be from the 1950-1960s. Most of the photographs are 8 x 10 inches. Photographs are arranged by subject. Many are group portraits of graduating classes or other classes and groups. Few are of individuals. There are classroom scenes and photographs of students working with patients and in clinical training. Special occasions are well represented, especially capping and graduation ceremonies, but also award presentations, nursing demonstrations, teas, and pageants. The last folder in the box holds pages from an album which contains drawings and newspaper articles as well as photographs. The album cover and plastic sleeves have been removed, but the pages are arranged in the same order as in the album. Much of the album's content is photographs from a 1962 alumnae reunion. Box 2 has 26 formal group photographs of early classes from 1911-1946. These photographs are of varied sizes and are black and white or sepia-toned. They are arranged chronologically. Box 3 has 14 black and white card-mounted photographs. They show scenes of all aspects of student life in the nursing school: admission interview, classroom scenes, clinical practice, individual study, chapel, recreational activities, and the capping ceremony. It is likely that these 16 x 20 inches photographs were used in a promotional display. Very few of the people in the pictures are identified. The condition of the older pictures in box 2 range from poor to good. Those in boxes 1 and 3 are in good condition.
